What is Shopify Hydrogen?
Hydrogen is Shopify's Remix-based framework for building headless storefronts on top of the Storefront API. It ships with Shopify-specific components, hooks for cart and customer state, and first-class hosting on Oxygen.
Hydrogen or custom Remix?
Hydrogen for tight Shopify integration and Oxygen hosting. Custom Remix when the engagement needs framework freedom Hydrogen does not provide, or when hosting must be Cloudflare or Vercel.
Do Hydrogen storefronts work with Shopify Plus?
Yes. Plus features (Markets, B2B, multipass, Functions) all integrate cleanly with Hydrogen storefronts. We have shipped Plus Hydrogen builds for multi-region brands.
What hosting do you use?
Oxygen by default for Hydrogen — Shopify-native, edge-rendered, fast. Cloudflare Workers or Vercel when the engagement specifically requires it.
How long does a Hydrogen build take?
New Hydrogen storefronts: 10-16 weeks. Migrations from existing Liquid themes: 12-20 weeks depending on content volume, integrations, and design ambition.
